Spotlight on America goes inside the Traced lab

Dr. Manish Arora sat down with the Spotlight on America team to explain how a single strand of hair can map about 30 days of environmental exposure

For families returning to damaged homes in the Pacific Palisades, the fire left a question that's hard to answer just by looking around: what are they being exposed to as they clean up and move back in?

Spotlight on America explored that question through the work of Dr. Manish Arora, environmental epidemiologist and founder and CEO of LinusBio. The team visited our lab, where a single strand of hair is read along its length to map 15 elements across about 30 days.

Dr. Arora has spent over a decade developing this approach at Mount Sinai. In the segment, he explains why he thinks of exposure as a timeline rather than a single moment, and why he believes the environment we live in deserves the same attention as the genes we're born with.
